"L" is for Layla

it's september and it is back to school time on this side of the world. christina comes home smelling of children, pencils, markers, laughter, excitement, discussion, hopes, fears, dreams, doubts and certainties...the energy is intense and it's all gooood.

this also means that i must wait at home until she returns. often times people ask her if it's fair to have a dog cooped up in an apartment. truth be told, i sleep, mostly, when she is away. sometimes i wrestle with mojo, but mostly i dream of good times past and good times to come.

i look forward to my morning walks. 30 minutes, down to the park and up and around. see the usual suspects, smell the usual smells...sometimes the unusual ones as well.

afternoon walks border on an hour plus. we map out the neighborhood and visit our usual favorite haunts. sometimes we go shopping and run the mundane errands, which are never mundane to me. we are out and about. one. together.

i love the life of a city dog. but perhaps like christina loves living here as long as she can skip out of town and/or country every now and again, so do i love visiting the country and my country kin.

night walks are short but sweet. but always there.

afternoons might entail hanging outside or inside the local "pub". weekends definitely bring social gathering and visits with human friends...

if you do it right, you too can adopt a dog and let them enjoy their life with you...even if you have to work some of the time.

  1. Hi Layla,

Glad to see you again and glad you had a good summer. You look terrific. I wish I could pay you a visit, but it doesn't like I will this year so keep posting and I will look for you each day. Take care of Christina. She's a dream girl.

  3. So sweet! Christina sure has a knack for finding homes for stray pups. It's too bad you never met Fos. You girls would have a blast! You look great in the classroom. I'm sure you wish you could go everyday with Chris.

  4. Layla is back in the country and enjoying a romp in the pine forest staking out her usual position on the mountain overlooking the road that leads to the neighbors house calling their 4 dogs to come and begin the chase. The chase is a well established game played by our 4 dogs plus Layla as they race against each other back and forth(our neighbors pets on the outside as they run free and ours on the inside)along the fence that separates our property from the forest. After the chase, they all are retrieved with the promise of a treat and a drink.
Her short stay ends on Wednesday when she returns to Athens...She will be relieved to know that Chris is missing her.....We will miss her too.

  5. By the way Layla I forgot to tell you how wonderful you look in the classroom. Any chance of a monthly visit to see the class in action?
